This ACC webinar will describe how to combine temporary forecast relationships with longer-term econometric analyses to produce aviation forecasts that bridge non-economic events and more normal times. Aviation demand reflects underlying economic activity. A common aviation demand forecasting technique involves creating a functional relationship between aviation demand and a primary forecast of economic activity. Learn how aviation forecasters create several correlations between past economic performance and aviation activity and select one that correlates better than others. Discover how this relationship is then used to relate future aviation activity to an independent forecast of the economic variable or a combination of economic variables. Non-economic events such as the pandemic or the 9/11 disasters disrupt these primary relationships. Sometimes these non-economic events affect aviation demand for an extended time. During this webinar, participants will discover why we need forecasts that reflect temporary relationships between non-economic drivers and aviation demand until normal economic drivers resume their influence.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this ACC webinar, participants will be able to:
• Identify, interpret and evaluate independent forecasts for COVID-19 infection rates
• Recognize non-economic trend upsetting events and evaluate their effects
• Explain the basic value delivered by air transportation versus other modes
• Describe temporary versus permanent changes to air transportation usage
