This ACC on-demand webinar will provide an overview of the FAA’s airfield pavement design procedure as outlined in Advisory Circular 150/5320-6G, Airport Pavement Design and Evaluation, which was released on June 7, 2021. The emphasis of the webinar will be on the changes made to the latest version of the Advisory Circular, including the reason behind the changes from the FAA’s perspective. Such changes include the need for approval of pavement designs, guidance on conducting a life-cycle cost analysis, enhanced guidance on subgrade stabilization, the use and design of stabilized layers and drainage layers, definitions and guidance for determining rehabilitation versus reconstruction, and the use of full-depth reclamation as an alternative. The webinar will also cover the additional guidance and discussion incorporated in the Advisory Circular on nondestructive testing, dynamic cone penetrometer, and ground penetrating radar. Design examples using FAARFIELD v2.0.3, including the selection of required inputs, will be presented to illustrate the application of these changes in the pavement design process.
